I bought my first NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream over 3 years ago and have recently reignited my flame for these lovely liquid lipstick formulas. Unlike most liquid lipsticks, these are not super drying or matte. They stay wet when you first apply them but can be blotted for a more matte look.
These lippies run $6.49 a pop but I bought most of mine on a bogo half off sale at Ulta (which they do about once a month). Each shade is named after a city and although I have quite the collection, I really only have about half the shades.
The formula is pigmented enough to provide a punchy lip color, but sheer enough to be easy to work with. Like any liquid lipstick, it can be tricky to apply if you’ve had a little too much coffee. Slow and steady wins the liquid lipstick race, guys.
The applicator is a standard doe-foot, not my favorite for liquid lipsticks (I prefer something more precise) but pretty standard nonetheless. The scent is a little like vanilla but faint enough that I doubt it would bother anyone with a sensitive shnoz.
These lipsticks won’t last through lunch but almost no lipstick does. I appreciate that they provide lots of pigment without drying my lips out. In fact, I’d venture to say that these are less drying than your average matte lipsticks.
Speaking of matte, these lipsticks aren’t. At least, not completely. As you can see from the pictures below, some of them have more of a satin finish. As I said earlier, it’s nothing a little bit of blotting can’t fix but I’d consider these a VERY soft matte lip cream.
That being said, I clearly love these. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have bought 14 of them! Check out my full try-on below.
And there you have it!
My favorite shades are Amsterdam, Rome, and Madrid. Have you guys tried these NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams? Let me know what your favorites are in the comment section below.
