It’s almost fall which is not only my favorite season but also considered to be the official season of lipstick (source: me). I buy a crap ton of lipsticks year-round because I love to experiment with new shades but I find that the best releases come this time of year.
The latest crop are these little beauties from L’Oreal. When I first caught sight of them in my local Ulta, I knew I had to try them out.

Mattes
L’Oreal Matte Lip Paints – Shades from top to bottom: Festival, Velvet Pout, Cinna-Bomb
These matte shades are probably my favorite. It’s not a big surprise considering that I love a matte lip and feel most comfortable in lip products that dry to a matte finish. The shade Festival is obviously the most wearable of the bunch, but I was surprised how wearable the lavender-toned Velvet Pout was.
The vampy, rich color of Cinna-Bomb was on point for me for fall, but because it was so dark, I found it a little tricky to apply.

L’Oreal Matte Metallic Lip Paints – Shades from top to bottom: Bronzed Burgandy, Bronze Statue, Brick Metal
I don’t think I’ve ever worn a metallic lip product before but given that it’s a major trend for the season, I thought I’d try it out. I’m surprisingly into it – I find these liquid lippies pretty easy to apply despite how shaky I am from one too many coffees. The metallic shimmer is definitely there but I find the matte finish gives it a cool, modern vibe. The color payoff on certain shades wasn’t as expected – but the pics below are all with one coat.
FYI, the color payoff on certain shades was a little disappointing – but the pics below are all with one coat.

L’Oreal Metallic Lip Paints -Shades from top to bottom: Galactic Foil, Liquid Venom
These were my least favorite. I don’t generally love a glossy lip on me anyway, but because these were pretty pigmented, they were incredibly messy to apply and just felt tacky.

The Verdict
Overall, I’d give this collection a C+. There are certain shades that I’ve already worn several times (Festival, Velvet Pout and Bronzed Burgandy). The staying power is great, and lasts through most meals but I find them tough to apply perfectly and certain shades require several coats to build up intensity (which might be fine for some, depending on what you’re going for).
What about you guys? Comment with your favorite fall lipstick shades below and let me know if you’d rock a metallic lip this season.
